Abstract

The search for reasons to explain the levels of corruption that are measured in different international indices is one of the recurring themes of the political science and public administration literature. A recent stream of research has upheld that one of those causes can be found in the kind of bureaucratic institutions of a particular political system. This article aims to discuss this argument in its actual application to the Spanish case, taking into account the peculiarities of our system of public employment and how they affect the conclusions drawn by this line of research.

Keywords:

corruption , politicization , bureaucracy , Spain.
