This study analizes the experience of the National Judicial Visit in Chile undertaken between 1848 and 1849 by Antonio Varas, then Minister of Justice, Worship and Public Instruction. It included the examination of the justice imparted by mayors, subdelegates and inspectors of Colchagua, one of the largest provinces in the country. Based on the reports that the visitor referred to the Ministry, the article identifies the characteristics of this unfinished business (the visitor resigned after visiting two of the nine provinces involved in the inspection) and analyzes the border areas between legal judicial practices and legal inspection.
